ZAMBIA is stepping up efforts to digitise government services as the country seeks to improve public administration, reduce bureaucratic delays and expand access to essential services through technology.
The Information and Communications Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ) has called for the integration of more public services into digital platforms, highlighting the potential of technology to make government operations more efficient.
According to reports by the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), ICTAZ Board Committee Member for Operations Malita Kabukabu welcomed progress in implementing the Electronic Government Service Bus, while emphasising the need to connect more government services to the platform.
The Electronic Government Service Bus is designed to facilitate the exchange of information between government systems, helping public institutions coordinate their operations and deliver services more efficiently.
The initiative forms part of Zambia’s wider digital transformation agenda, which seeks to modernise public administration and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
President Hakainde Hichilema has advocated the digitalisation of government services under the country’s development ambitions, which extend towards 2031.
The transition to digital platforms could help citizens access public services without making repeated visits to government offices. It could also reduce paperwork, improve processing times and enhance transparency in public administration.
Technology stakeholders have also highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in Zambia’s development. AI applications could support data analysis, public service planning, fraud detection and decision-making across different sectors.
